HYALURONIC ACID SERUM BASE: HYDRATION FROM WITHIN
This is Part 7 of the Castor Oil vs JUSTBLiSS Miracle Facial Oil series.
Aside from oils, the Miracle Facial Oil is noted to include a hyaluronic acid (HA) serum base. Hyaluronic acid is not an oil but a humectant – a water-binding molecule that occurs naturally in our skin. Including HA in a facial oil product likely means the formula is an emulsion or a bi-phase serum, where HA provides a hydrating water phase and the oils provide an emollient phase. This combination can give the best of both worlds: hydration + moisture. Here’s why HA is so valuable:
Moisture Magnet: Hyaluronic acid is famous for its ability to attract and hold water. It can bind up to 1,000 times its weight in water health.harvard.edu, pulling moisture from the environment or deeper skin layers and holding it in the upper skin. By doing so, it dramatically boosts skin’s hydration. When you apply an HA serum, it’s like giving your skin a big drink of water – skin cells swell with water, which plumps up the skin. Fine lines and dehydration lines diminish, and skin looks more bouncy. In the Miracle Facial Oil, having a hyaluronic-rich base means that when you apply it, the HA will quickly draw water into your skin (either from the product if water is present, or from damp skin if you apply after cleansing). The oils then come in to seal that moisture so it doesn’t evaporate. This one-two punch is excellent for long-lasting hydration.
Absorption: Hyaluronic acid itself doesn’t “absorb” in the way oils do – it’s a large molecule and mostly stays near the surface. However, modern HA serums use different molecular weights. Smaller HA fragments can penetrate a bit into the epidermis (the top skin layer), while larger ones sit on top and hydrate the surface health.harvard.edu. The result is layered hydration: both immediate surface moisture and slightly deeper hydration. Importantly, HA is very lightweight and non-comedogenic. It leaves no residue (it’s basically like a gel). All skin types usually tolerate HA well, because it’s a substance found naturally in the skin (so it’s not seen as an “invader”).
Skin Benefits: The primary benefit is hydration and plumping. Well-hydrated skin is healthier skin. Regular use of HA can improve skin texture (dry rough patches go away), reduce the appearance of wrinkles (hydrated skin is plumper and lines are less visible), and enhance radiance (because light reflects better off moist skin than off dull, dry skin). HA can also help soothe the skin; by keeping the outer layer hydrated, it bolsters the skin barrier, making it less prone to irritation from outside. Many people with sensitive or acne-prone skin use HA serums as a way to moisturize without oils – it’s that gentle. In our context, HA is paired with oils, which is even better: the HA draws in water, and the oils prevent that water from escaping. This mimics a healthy skin barrier function.
Another benefit is that hyaluronic acid enhances the penetration of other ingredients (when the skin is well-hydrated, it’s more permeable in a good way). So the oils and their actives might distribute more evenly on hydrated skin. HA in the base formula likely makes the Miracle Facial Oil feel more like a serum – not heavy at all, perhaps a slightly viscous, milky or gel-like oil blend that immediately makes the skin feel supple.
All Skin Types: Hyaluronic acid is universally beneficial. Dry skin loves the added hydration (and will especially love it under an occlusive layer of oils). Oily skin often is dehydrated underneath; HA provides water-based hydration without any grease, actually helping to normalize oil production (sometimes skin produces excess oil because it’s dehydrated). Sensitive skin typically adores HA because it’s non-irritating and often soothing. Even acne-prone skin does well with HA, as it’s oil-free moisture – in this formulation, the oils included are acne-safe too, so together they form a hydrating, healing concoction that shouldn’t break you out.
In summary, the hyaluronic acid serum base ensures that Miracle Facial Oil isn’t just an oil blend – it’s also a hydrating serum. It makes the product more effective by addressing the water content of the skin (not just the oil content). By plumping up the skin with HA, it sets the stage for the oils to work even better (moisture + nutrients). This is a key difference versus using castor oil alone, which provides zero water-phase hydration – HA brings that critical hydration element to the table, enhancing long-term skin moisture and health.
