INTRODUCTION: MY WHY
When I started JUSTBLiSS, I didn't choose hemp seed oil because I read scientific studies about fatty acid profiles or barrier repair mechanisms. I chose it because of something much simpler, much more immediate:
How it felt.
I was experimenting in my kitchen, playing with every single oil I could get my hands on. Coconut oil, olive oil, sweet almond, jojoba, argan, sunflower, grapeseed — I tried them all. I was searching for the perfect base oil for my very first product: handmade soap bars. Most oils made soap that felt just ordinary. Some made it too soft. Some made it slimy. Some left a waxy residue. Some made your skin feel tight after washing.
Then I tried hemp seed oil.
The moment I washed my hands with that first hemp-based soap bar, I knew I'd found something special. It felt like washing with lotion. The soap lathered beautifully, rinsed clean, but left my skin feeling soft and moisturised — not stripped, not tight, not dry. Just... comfortable. Even though I'd just washed my hands with soap, they felt nourished.
I remember standing at my sink, turning my hands over, touching my skin, thinking: "This is it. This is the feeling I want in every product I make."
The next product I created was a rooibos tea body butter.
Again, hemp seed oil transformed it. The texture was incredible — rich and creamy, but it absorbed quickly. It didn't sit on the skin feeling greasy. It didn't leave stains on clothing. It just melted in, leaving skin soft and smooth.
That "wow" feeling when you apply it — that moment when the product glides on, absorbs beautifully, and leaves your skin feeling exactly as you want it to feel — that's what hemp seed oil brought to every single formulation.
I fell deeper in love with hemp seed oil the more I learned about it.
As I researched this ingredient I'd chosen based purely on texture and feel, I discovered:
- Its remarkable fatty acid profile (nearly perfect for human skin)
- Its anti-inflammatory properties (from the rare GLA it contains)
- Its non-comedogenic nature (works for all skin types)
- Its fast absorption (that "dry oil" magic I'd experienced)
- Its gentle effectiveness (suitable even for sensitive skin)
Every scientific fact I learned confirmed what my hands had already told me: this oil is extraordinary.
